About

What is COOTA 400?

COOTA 400 is the only true Pre 90's street muscle car cruise/drag event which is held annually at the COOTA Airstrip (Cootamundra Airport) for 4 years now.

It is a two-day drag event, or three days if you enter the street driven class and drive to Coota from Sydney.

How does it work?

The 1st day Shootout will be the Street Driven Cars and the 2nd day will be the overall toughest car Shootout. We also make time for some burnouts.

This event is not about who has the fastest car, it's about people who share a passion for cars, who like to get away together for a couple of days with BBQ's, friends and their Cars in a safe environment down the 400-meter strip. This is not a serious race event, but we aim to keep it fair.

We will have 2 groups in 2 different lanes. Odds & Even Lanes. There will be more details provided during the event.

We will be making more of a movie this year and not a shootout video as we have in the pass. It was time for a chance in layout ofthe event and the video. It will be around 45 mins long video.

Fees can be found in the Payments section.

The COOTA 400 Champion Car Award goes to the Street Driven Car. The Overall Toughest Street Registered Car Award will go to Saturdays Finalists. All Cars must be at least 30 years old to enter this event. May allow a few less years depending on the owner & car. The categories are Street Driven Forced Induction, Naturally Aspirated and Trailer N/A and F/I.  All Cars must be street registered to be eligible for the final shootout.

If you own a street muscle car and have always wanted to race against your mate and others, this is the event for you.

History & Further Information of COOTA 400

Many years ago, I had a dream of an event where mates with muscle cars & BBQs spend a weekend in a beautiful country town of Cootamundra on a runway drag racing their cars. This became a reality in 2017, where SMC 500 was born. It was a fantastic weekend with everyone enjoying everyone’s company. It was about cruising or towing down the highway with mates for 380km & having fun in your car and racing whoever you want on a runway. This event is about making safe memories with mates with fast cars & bbq’s, which is filmed for all to enjoy. This year, we have a new movie company with a different format on how we film the event. A Cinema screening will be hosted shortly after the event concludes.

This year, hence the name COOTA 400 & for many other reasons, we decided to make it a 400-meter battle. This is not to say we shall never do a 500-meter event again.

Thursday (Apr 27th) will be the drive down to Cootamundra Airport. This is for the Street Driven Class that are driving their Cars to Coota. Friday afternoon Street Driven Cars will have a Shootout which will determine who is COOTA 400 Street King 2020.

Friday (Apr 28th) is the start of the event. We will be splitting everyone into two groups so that the other group can go see their mates Grudge Race. After both groups have had their go, it's on for anyone to take on Grudge Racing. We will make time for power skids and burnouts in the afternoon. Friday afternoon Street Driven Car finalists will receive their trophies and awards.

Saturday (Apr 29th) is more Grudge Racing with whoever you want. Will split everyone into two groups again so everyone can have a few rounds of racing. Saturday afternoon will be the start of COOTA 400 overall Street Car Shootout. Everyone is invited to enter shootout. There will be two classes, Forced Induction & Naturally Aspirated. The finalist of each class will be invited to have a shootout for COOTA 400 Toughest Street Car Trophy.

Hope you all can make it to this wonderful muscle car event from the 24th-26th of September. This is a true Old School Street Muscle Car Event. Where else in the world can you watch two classic muscle cars have it out continually on an open runway? Cootamundra Airport. Be There.
